Synopsis

The valley of Spielburg is in trouble. The Baron's daughter has gone missing, as has his son. A nasty witch named Baba Yaga has placed the entire valley under a curse! And now goblins and worse roam the valley at will.

It falls to YOU, brave but unknown hero, to step in and save the day. Can you do it? Will the evil be slain? Do you have a spare pair of underpants in your backpack?

With three classes to choose from - warrior, mage or thief - plus all the ability points to assign at will, you can create the hero you always wished to be. Best of all, each class offers different ways to solve the game.

So grab your dashing cloak and prepare to do battle. Do YOU want to be a Hero?

About

Released in 1989. Also known as Hero's Quest: So You Want to Be a Hero. The game was also released in Japan (クエスト フォー グローリィ) for the NEC PC-9801 computer. This version came out in 2 variants: 8-color and 16-color. Both used the same SCI vector-picture format (that uses 256 colors internally). The game came with 2 graphic drivers: 9801V8M.DRV and 9801V16.DRV. The first rendered the graphics in 640x400 8 color mode and the second in 640x400 16 color mode. The 8-color variant of the game was using a palette that looked better when dithered to 8 colors, and vice versa.

This game was re-released again in VGA format (SCI1.1) in 1992.
