Prince Cocteau is based upon the character from Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve's traditional fairy tale, Beauty and the Beast, published in 1740. [1] An evil enchantment by a spurned evil fairy transformed Prince Cocteau into an ugly beast. Beauty's love breaks the enchantment, restoring him to his original form.
