Who exactly was "Hoyle?"
For more than two hundred years, the name "Hoyle" has been synonymous with precise game playing. Even outside the world of games, to do something "According to Hoyle" means to be completely by the rules, accurate and without mistake.
In 1742, Edmond Hoyle published the widely successful "Short Treatise on the Game of Whist...." Over the years, Hoyle went on to write more rulebooks for a number of other games including Chess and Backgammon. In fact, his laws and strategy are still strongly in force with backgammon players worldwide.
As the years have passed, Hoyle's name has been attached to numerous compendiums of games. Today you'll recognize that famous name all over the globe, always meaning the best in gameplay with strict attention to the rules.
While you play any Hoyle game from Sierra, you'll see that we've taken the accuracy and quality that "According to Hoyle" means very seriously. Not to mention, we've thrown in so much interactive fun, beautiful graphics and rich sounds that even Edmund Hoyle would agree that a rousing game of Whist would pale in comparison.
