Description

The Beast's Challenge in the Hedge Maze

The Beast's Hedge Maze is a setting in King's Quest 6.

About

The game[1] wrote:

The path ends here at a circle of hedges, forming a small clearing. A gushing fountain dominates the clearing and an iron gate leads off to a hedge that continues back towards the castle and forms what appears to be a maze. In the distance, a castle stands out majestically against the sky. The hedge maze stands like a moat between the castle and the rest of the world. The maze of hedges seems to be a final obstacle protecting Beast's privacy. The gate has been firmly shut and latched. Having seen the result of his other violations, Alexander has no desire to test the maze.

Alexander entered the garden beyond the wall. Before him was a huge hedge of the most beautiful red and white roses Alexander had ever seen. They were as sweetly fragrant as the stinking rose had been putrid, and spread blossoms were as wide as his hand. Alexander plucked a white rose hoping soon to be able to give it to Cassima in person.

Next he attacked the dense thorny hedge, for the path continued beyond it, and there was no way through. And though it grew nearly as fast as he chopped, it fell into a few sharp whacks with the scythe. Alexander stepped though the the sundered roses into a formal garden of the sort that would not be out of place gracing a castle--in fact, a castle such as Alexander could see in the dim distance. At the garden's center, a fountain carved of white porcelain sprayed jets of water into the sky.[2]
