About
Maurice Molyneaux was involved in game development from 1988, starting as a game artist, game designer, producer, and eventually as Director of Product Namco Networks America Inc.
His career in gaming started in 1988 as a contract artist on Omnitrend games including Paladin and Breach 2. He became involved in game design starting with that company's 1991's release Rules of Engagement and it's 1993 sequel, Rules of Engagement 2, both of which required complex user interfaces with incredibly detailed manuals. During this period he was also a contributing editor for the Atari computer magazines A.N.A.L.O.G. Computing and ST-Log before writing the handheld gaming column "Gaming On the Go" for Video Games & Computer Entertainment Magazine.
By 1994 he had moved into game design, working on "edutainment", PC and console games for companies such as EA and Playmates Interactive Entertainment (Genesis/SNES). After a 14-month stint at the short-lived S.F. studio of Psygnosis he resumed contract work on games for Appaloosa Interactive Corporation.
From 2000 to 2004 he worked for NuvoStudios, managing production of web games for clients such as eCast and Pearson Television before the company shifted to the then-new field of wireless games, where he acted as a the main producer on over 30 games for clients including Sony Pictures, Jamdat, Disney/ESPN and THQ.
As the 4th hire for Namco America's new wireless division, which later became Namco Networks America Inc., he built the Product Development group from the ground up, and oversaw production of approximately 40 titles across numerous mobile phone and smartphone devices. The most significant title produced there being SceneIt Movies, which was the first mobile feature-phone game in the US market to feature downloadable streaming video content.
He left games for three years then returned to BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment America Inc. to produce PAC-MAN + Tourmaments for the Android platform (which evolved into the PAC-MAN iOS and Android games on the market through 2019), which includes downloadable content and new features, some of which were based on the original 1979 PAC-MAN specification but dropped from the final game. As of 2019 he still occasionally consulted on games on a contract basis.
